Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet

Alongside Apple and SamsungAmazon is throwing its hat in the ring in the burgeoning tablet computer market by unveiling its own touch-screen tablet, the Kindle Fire. The device features a 7-inch touch screen, weighs 14.6 ounces, and is powered by a dual-core processor. For many, its biggest selling point will be its price: $199, less than half the price of the Apple iPad, which starts at $499. Fire users will also have access to Amazon’s library of 18 million e-books, songs, movies and TV shows, and can subscribe to digital editions of hundreds of magazine titles, including Vanity FairWired and GQ. A custom built browser, Amazon Silk, is cloud-accelerated, and speaking of which, users are provided with free cloud-based storage for movies, music and apps. It’s all displayed on a vibrant touchscreen that uses in IPS (in-plane switching technology) that allows for an extra-wide viewing angle. Amazon is taking pre-orders through its site right now, with delivery beginning on November 15th.
