The 2012 battle for box office sale receipts is only half way over and yet most were speculating must see films of 2013 at last week’s San Diego Comic Con. One such was Man of Steel, another effort by Warner Brothers and DC Comics to reboot their Superman franchise. Though director Bryan Singer’s more elaborated Superman Returns was a popular retelling amongst movie critics. The 2006 film never truly won over die-hard fans. Those involved in this latest incarnation are hoping for a more popular response. First, similar to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, the term “Superman” got dropped from the movie title. Second, they hired director Zack Snyder, whose stylized CGI sequences in 300, Watchmen, and Sucker Punch have won rave followings. Already, you can see Snyder’s influence on the film’s visual style in the latest official poster for Comic Con – a fleeting glimpse of Superman literally in a suit of steel and Medieval chainmail. Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is set in theaters on June 14th, 2013.

Based on the new 41mm Royal Oak chronograph, Audemars Piguet produced a Royal Oak ‘Leo Messi’ limited edition watch series. Limited to 1000 pieces globally, the watch is available in either steel/tantalum, pink gold/tantalum or platinum/tantalum and it houses a self-winding mechanical calibre 2385 movement. Take particular notice of the gold/tantalum version, as that is certainly something that one does not come across very often. The steel and platinum versions are of course more every day friendly. The watches all come with alligator straps and with an additional sportier rubber strap, both replacing the more traditional stell strap. The price of the the Leo Messi Royal Oak chronograph ranges from $30,400 for the steel/tantalum model, $51,400 for the pink gold/tantalum and $83,300 for the platinum/tantalum.

What could one expect if the Marvel or DC Comic heroes were part of the universe of Greek mythology? Contemporary surrealist painter Tim Maclean is exploring the reality of this altered fantasy in his latest exhibition at the Subtext Gallery in San Diego. Maclean’s renditions imagine Spiderman as Hermes, the Hulk as Hercules, or Batman as Hades — who do you think would make the best Zeus? You can pick up any one of the still-remaining original prints here, or just check out the exhibition in person when it opens at Subtext on July 14.

LEGO Bridge by MEGX

Posted: July 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

A German artist by the name of MEGX took on a task to transform a regular ol’ overpass in Germany into a LEGO bridge. Being that LEGOs are not ideal for load bearing, he painted the bridge to take on the appearance of our favorite toy building blocks. It looks good, too! Great choice of colors and great detailing. Check out bridge in our gallery above.
